Importance of Immunity Building in Today’s Times
Do you want a more reliable, safe, and natural way to boost your immune system?
Indeed, there are fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole-grain cereals, and many diet-related, immune-boosting methods to help you.
However, we’re here to explore the effects of a time-tested method that scientists believe calms the mind and improves immunity levels.
Meditation has been linked to boosting one’s immunity levels, which means you become less prone to illnesses and live an improved quality of life.
In this blog, allow us to take you through the benefits of meditation while we also touch upon its relation to boosting the immune system.
Meditation and its apparent connection with emotional well-being
One of the best medications is meditation!
You’ll have a few friends, family, and medical health professionals urge you to meditate when you are highly stressed or burned out with the workload.
It turns out there’s more merit to the concept of meditation than claimed.
Here are a few advantages that meditation has to offer:
- It helps develop emotional well-being during stressful situations
- Builds your ability to manage episodes of anxiety
- Increases your sense of self-awareness
- It enables you to focus on the present, reducing negative emotions
- It increases your ability to think creatively and improves your imagination
- Increases your level of patience and tolerance
Through consistent and daily meditation, you can indeed feel the benefits and experience enhanced energy levels in the body. This method helps you direct your thought process productively and condition your mind to think more calmly and positively about any situation in life.
There’s no doubt that researchers would study the effects of meditation and how it can be incorporated into behavioral therapy in patients.
The effects of meditating to reduce stress-related disorders
Much of our illnesses may be related to stress. While some researchers say it’s still not possible to derive a definite conclusion that meditation supports health benefits, we cannot ignore the notion altogether.
Furthermore, some researchers have suggested that meditation may help people manage more symptoms, including:
- Stress headaches
- Depressions
- Heart disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Sleep irregularities
- Cancer
- Chronic pain
- Asthma
- High blood pressure
Meditation done extensively has proven beneficial for 100 male and female patients in a particular study.
Their blood sample reports are taken before and after a long meditation period. The analysis indicated that meditation boosted the activities of hundreds of genes that were directly involved in managing the immune system.
However, the study involved 10 hours of meditation daily for 48 days. This extensive length of meditation is not possible in the real world as people would find it impractical.
The findings suggest that meditation played a significant role in enhancing the patient’s immunity levels.
The link between Interferon Proteins and boosted immunity
A research was conducted on 106 men and women with an average age of 40.
The men and women had participated in a meditation program conducted at the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences in McMinnville, Tennessee.
Their blood samples were drawn periodically, from five to eight times before the meditation program, on the eve of the commencement of the program, and three months after the program was concluded.
The program consisted of an eight-day retreat, where the participants were put on vegan cuisine and were made to follow a regular sleep schedule. The meditation sessions lasted 10 hours daily.
Every patient’s immune-related gene activity that involved 220 genes in connection with immunity was monitored. Among these were the specific 60 genes engaged in interferon signalling.
The active signalling of these genes was key to impacting an effective defense against varied health conditions. This included cancer, multiple sclerosis, or even COVID-19, provided that the interferon proteins acted as immune system triggers.
While this study may not claim the impact of meditation on its controlled environment in the program, there is a relation with improved health.
How to introduce meditation into your life
Many people practice meditation in different ways. The key is to start building the habit of meditating, after which you can decide the best approach for you.
Here are some of the ways you can integrate meditation into your life:
Skip social media, meditate instead – Social media is not entirely the enemy but proves to be a daily distraction. Replace that activity with meditation whenever you plan to browse through social media.
Slip into meditation before you sleep – Meditating before bedtime helps with improving your sleeping habits and patterns. So, turn on calming music for 30 minutes to one hour and unwind your thinking process to relax. After the meditation is complete, you may find it easier to fall asleep.
Other methods include meditating in the early hours of the day, yoga practice, meditation during your short break at work; and while in the shower, where you feel more centered and focused.
Therefore, allow the benefits of meditation to improve your immune system.
Complementing this economical therapy compared to costly treatments for various illnesses can be a far better approach.
